Frank and Isobel Bakewell
For the past 6 months, our family (Frank, Clare and Isobel Bakewell - based in the UK) have been setting up an online community for awakened unvaccinated teens who's lives have been drastically changed over the past few years. Many have lost friends, family and their education, and feel their futures are being taken away from them - and having a teen ourselves - we felt this was a really important issue. This community has served as a way to connect them, where they can make new friends, talk about the vaccine/covid situation, host film nights and share skills such as drawing and cooking. The group now has over 50 members and has been a lifeline for many, but is now under threat of censorship of 'medical misinformation' from the platform we use, Discord - we are looking for a solution to this. We want to create a place where young people can socialise, learn and follow their interests without fear of being shut down - a place where they can take back control of their futures from the government.
If you think you can help make this new platform, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
This might be helpful for the interview: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-safety-bill-supporting-documents/online-safety-bill-factsheet
Its a summary of the online safety bill which came in yesterday in the UK, the government claim it's the world's first online safety laws.
Also, this is a responce to it by the platform we use: https://discord.com/blog/addressing-health-misinformation
They contacted Ernest about this because of a show he and Derrick did with Corbett about IPFS…
Hi Ernest,
My name is Isobel and for the past 6 months, myself and my Mum have been setting up an online community for teens not taking the covid vaccine. It now has around 60 members, and has been a real lifeline certainly for myself, and I think a lot of the other teens on there, many of whom have been taken out of school and have lost friends because of the covid/vaccination situation. We talk on it nearly everyday and have almost created our own sub-culture! But we now have a problem, in that Discord has just announced that a new policy will come into place at the end of March where anti-vax/ 'medical misinformation' groups will be taken down, and we think our site will be a prime target. (Here's the link to what they say on their website, it's worded in quite an agressive way: https://discord.com/blog/addressing-health-misinformation).
Recently. my Dad showed me the video that yourself and Derrick Slopey did with James Corbett where you talked about IPFS. We started looking into it and thought it might be a solution for connecting the teen group together in a way which could not be taken down easily, as if Discord does take us down we will have a big problem communicating as most live far away from each other and haven't met in real life.
At the moment on the Discord platform we use, we can live text chat to each other, talk on voice/video calls, livestream (we do cooking and arts sessions and have cinema nights), and share photos/videos.
We can see that IPFS is for storing and distributing files and data, which is great for recording videos/photos for each other, but what we would really like to do is to have live group text (of even voice) chats on a platform that can't be taken down. Do you think IPFS could be part of making a platform to host this? If not, would you have any pointers on how to do this?
Thank you!
Isobel and family
